Join MCL on its 19th Walk into (Conservation) History to the West Peak of Mt. Tam. With leader Gary Yost, Mill Valley film maker and unofficial historian, we will visit the site of the former U.S. Air Force radar installation that operated throughout the “Cold War” and consider how the area might be restored. This is an easy two-mile round-trip hike with spectacular views and fascinating tour of the “ruins.”
Directions: From 101, take Stinson Beach/Highway 1 exit, turn left on Hwy 1 at Tam Junction traffic light. Turn right onto Panoramic; follow Panoramic to Pantoll in Mt. Tam State Park, turn right onto Pantoll Road, and turn right at Rock Spring parking area onto East Ridgecrest Blvd. Park in overflow parking on the right about ½ mile beyond entrance to Mt. Theater.
