Old St. Hilary's Preserve, Tiburon
MCL continues its series of Walks into the Conservation History of Marin County at Old St. Hilary's Open Space Preserve in Tiburon. This walk was to have been held last fall but was canceled. Now the spring wildflowers will greet you as you enjoy unsurpassed views of the Bay from the southern ridges of the Tiburon peninsula and learn how this Open Space Preserve was protected from development by local activists in the 1990s.
The preserve adjoins the Tiburon Uplands Nature Preserve and the privately-held lands of the Martha Company, currently threatened with major residential development and a prime target for public acquisition. Learn how its conservation could work!
The Walk will be led by MCL board members Nona Dennis and Jill Templeton, with resource information provided by Jerry Riessen, President of Tiburon Open Space Committee.
This moderately strenuous 1-mile hike is free and open to the public. The optional Uplands Preserve "loop" is available for hardy hikers.
