Meet a Dairy, a Cheesemaker, and an Energy Challenge

MCL tour of Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. and...Meet a Dairy, a Cheesemaker, and an Energy Challenge
Sorry, registration is now closed.

Bob Giacomini and his four daughters operate a dairy, a cheesemaking operation, and a culinary center (The Fork) focused on education. MCL is excited to sponsor a visit to this picturesque 720-acre dairy on the east shore of Tomales Bay on Saturday, June 20. Giacomini, one of the first dairy farmers in the North Bay to install a methane digester to provide power for his ranch, will discuss the sustainable farming practices and humane animal care that earned the ranch the 2013 Leopold Conservation Award.

In addition to learning about milk and cheese and enjoying a cheese tasting, you’ll hear from Jeff Creque, of the Carbon Cycle Institute, about how the methane digester’s by-product is used to sequester carbon; and from Tom Flynn, an environmental consultant, about the Energy Alliance, an effort to help dairies be more energy efficient and produce clean energy to meet their needs. The event will be as rich as a Marin County cow’s milk in information about what the cow produces and how it can be beneficially used!

The fee for this event is $20. It is open to the public but reservations are required by Monday, June 15. Reservations can be made online or by calling 415-485-6257. The farm is located three miles north of Point Reyes Station, 14700 Highway One.
Bring a hat, sunglasses and a windbreaker as the weather is extremely variable.
