A history of the intent and formation of the Seashore and GGNRA
Location: Bay Model, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito
In this first workshop of MCL’s four-part series, historians John Hart, Paul Sadin, and Laura Watt will share what they’ve learned from combing through congressional records, reviewing historical documents, and interviewing leaders and participants in the Seashore’s formation. The evening will include presentations, discussion, and Q&A. This is a unique opportunity to learn about significant periods in history when conceptualizing, defining, and managing the Seashore, including its areas of ranching and agriculture, evolved.
Sept. 27: A Day In The Life Of A Rancher On Pt. Reyes National Seashore
The ABC’s of ranching and market influences on the economic viability of a ranch on the Seashore.
Hear from West Marin grazing livestock and dairy ranchers what a day on the farm is like. Complementing this real life experience will be expert information from agricultural academics, providing important context for the external factors that can make or break the success of a family ranching operation
Location: Nicasio School, 5555 Nicasio Valley Rd., NicasioThe Point Reyes Peninsula is a treasured geography, uniquely positioned on the margin between land and sea. Protecting the resulting environments and uses is integral to the Seashore's mission and ranching operations. Learn about the preciousness of this landscape, how the Seashore coordinates and delivers multiple mandates to protect it, and the role of on-ranch conservation that contributes to achieving that protections.
Location: Bay Model, 2100 Bridgeway, SausalitoThe next generations of ranchers discuss their hopes and plans for the future of ranching in Marin and the Point Reyes National Seashore.
