Waste reduction and the Bay: What are our communities' biggest challenges and opportunities? How are local governments and community groups working together? What can businesses and residents do to contribute? How do we mobilize together? Engage with a panel of speakers followed by Q&A from the audience (you!).
Speakers:
Rob Carson, Manager, Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (MCSTOPP). Rob will describe the county’s efforts to meet state legislation to reduce waste into drainage inlets, working with cities and the county to prepare for forthcoming regulations fully in required by 2019. Efforts are already underway: 2019 kicks off a 10 year program which culminates in the goal of 100% capture of all trash/litter. They are helping to prepare cities and towns do what is needed to prepare for next Storm Water Discharge permit.
Steve Devine, Marin County Waste Management Program Manager, and in charge of Zero Waste Marin, a joint powers authority that includes Marin County and Marin’s 11 municipalities, will discuss Zero Waste Marin’s efforts to divert waste from the waste stream and reduce/eliminate single use waste materials.
Joan Murray, CLEAN Mill Valley. Joan will speak about the volunteer effort to prevent litter, and efforts to clean it up.
