Ranching In the Park: Not by Accident

A Marin Conservation League series of workshops designed to increase understanding of:
-ranching on lands managed by the Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS)
-their relation to Marin's larger ranching community
-key issues that will be addressed in PRNS's planning and environmental assessment for ranches in the Park

Check back often for updated speaker details.

Tuesday evenings 6pm-8pm. Locations will alternate between Sausalito and Nicasio. Carpooling encouaraged.  

September 13: How the national parks in Marin came to be

A history of the intent and formation of the Seashore and GGNRA

Location: Bay Model, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito

Sept. 27: A day in the life of a rancher Pt. Reyes National Seashore

The ABC’s of ranching and market influences on the economic viability of a ranch on the Seashore

The ABCs of ranching and dairy farming is the focus. Hear from actual grazing livestock and dairy ranchers what a day on the farm is like.  Complementing this real life experience will be expert information from agricultural academics, providing important context for the external factors that can make or break the success of a family ranching operation.

Oct. 11: Doing it all: Taking care of the land the ranch

Stewardship of the ecosystems and natural resources that are the endowment of the National Parks in West Marin; grazing practices and conservation projects that work to improve water quality and protect wildlife habitat

Oct. 25: Hopes and dreams

Senior Walk Into History: Indian Valley

Senior Walk Into History: Indian Valley Open Space Preserve

This 558 acre preserve wraps around the Indian Valley campus of College of Marin (IVC). There are numerous trails that offer loop hikes, mostly through shaded forests of oak and bay trees. Our walk will offer 1 and 2 mile options, both mostly level with gentle slopes.

Van pick-up and return:
9:00 am Mill Valley Community Center
9:20 am Smith Ranch Park & Ride, San Rafael, or 9:45 am Meet at trailhead/Lot 6, IVC
