About MCL

img_whalerspoint_dparkerSince the 1970s, a local developer has been trying to build a hotel complex on this 2.2 acre site sandwiched between the Commodore Houseboat Marina and Heliport and Shoreline Office Center south of Mill Valley. The current (2014) proposal is for a 34,031 square-foot, three-story hotel complex containing 56 rooms, as well as a detached 4,922 square foot, one-story spa. The applicant has also requested that the County vacate portions of three streets bordering the property.

The property, of which only 1.6 acres is dry land and the remainder subject to tidal action and future sea level rise, fronts on Richardson Bay tidal marshes and mudflats that are rich habitat for shorebirds and waterfowl, including the endangered California clapper rail.

Marin Conservation League has been tracking this proposal for decades and will continue to do so now that the application is back before county planners. The county's page for the development is here.
